Seattle & Tacoma Criminal Defense Attorney

Criminal Attorney Seattle

Are You Being Investigated? Have You Been Charged With A Crime?

If either are true, then you need the advice of an attorney skilled in the criminal defense area of law. The best attorney in a different area of law will tell you they can’t give you criminal defense legal advice.

Two main reasons to use an attorney for criminal defense are:

  1. Anything you say “can and will” be used against you in a court of law.
It’s your Miranda Right and it’s so true. Police are not investigating a crime in order to send you a birthday card. They think the perpetrator is you and they want to get their report filed so you can be charged. Sorry, but it’s all about you. Police are under almost no obligation to tell you the truth either. That means they may tell you: “Listen buddy, everybody else is pointing the finger at you, so you need to come clean and tell us what’s going on so we can put in a good word for you with the prosecutor…” In other words, tell us everything so we can get the case filed and lower this stack of paperwork. Jensen Legal means no disrespect for hard working, honest law enforcement, but it’s part of their job and don’t expect the police to cut you slack. If you have any liability at all, you need to hire a competent criminal defense lawyer and insulate yourself from the problem.
  2. You don’t know what you are doing. You will tell yourself: “All I need to do is convince them that…etc, etc…I didn’t do it”. In reality, the police will listen to you, write down everything they can use against you, write down everything anybody else told them to use against you and then file their case with the prosecutors. Ask your best friend: “Can I really talk my way out of this?”, then listen to your friend’s answer and hire a lawyer to handle the case.

You have the right to remain silent. You have the right to good legal advice before you do anything. These are the two main tenants of being charged with a crime.

Do everything with forethought and good criminal defense advice because it’s really hard to put Pandora back in the box once you let her out.
