Football Teams Are Coming Together To Fight Domestic Violence

In a recent post  published on the statesman website they explained how some highschool and college football teams are gathering together for one main cause – raising awareness for the harm domestic violence causes. This campaign is going to run throughout this Fall, and the way that the football players are going to raise awareness is very interesting.

During the different games throughout the Fall the football teams that are participating are going to be wearing purple ribbon stickers on their helmets as they’re playing. These ribbons are a symbol that represents domestic violence prevention. Football teams are partnering with the Hays county law enforcement agencies within their area. Both parties want as many kids and parents to be educated about the matter as possible.

“’Nationwide, domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15 and 44, more than car accidents, muggings and rapes combined,’” said Lt. Jeri Skrocki of the sheriff’s office.

This is an outstanding fact because a lot of people don’t see domestic violence as serious as car accidents or rape, but according to the statement above we absolutely need to be working on informing the public about domestic violence. The fact of the matter is that domestic violence is a serious issue, and people need to be informed about it one way or another.

A great quote taken directly from the article states,

“The initiative, entitled ‘Football Can Be a Violent Sport, Relationships Shouldn’t Be,’ is targeted at young adults in an effort to stop the cycle of violence. Nationwide, one in 10 high school students has been hit by a boyfriend or girlfriend and one in three teens reports knowing someone in an abusive relationship, Skrocki said.

‘We need to make sure that these kids are educated about this,” she said. “I implore each and every one of us to educate our kids about this because we all know that this habit continues and perpetuates and ultimately will become a problem as they get older.’”

This problem is not just one that occurs within the boundaries of a certain state or area, Seattle domestic violence is just as important and problematic as another city that has this problem.
